Established in early 2012 by Matt Redman, the business provides a range of crop protection and general contracting services across Bedfordshire and the surrounding counties.
The Redman family has been farming in Gravenhurst, Beds since 1932, however the farm was not large enough to support an additional pair of hands when Matt left Harper Adams University in 2010. From 2010 to 2012 Matt worked as an arable foreman on a dairy farm, gaining a wealth of experience and also obtaining his BASIS certificate in crop protection during this time.
In 2012 the opportunity came to operate a sprayer and provide labour services locally, so Matt decided to establish his own business. The business operates from the family farm, operating its own machinery, but a strong working relationship between the existing family farm and Matt Redman Agriculture means we are able to hire additional machinery when required, enabling us to offer a wide range of services beyond our current machinery fleet - which is also steadily growing - and also take advantage of the additional knowledge and experience.
In April 2013, a Kuhn Aero 24m boom spreader was added to the machinery fleet to allow 24m avadex application. In August a John Deere 6420s tractor was also purchased, reducing the need to hire machinery and giving more flexibility. Shortly after, due to customer demand, the tyres on the 6420s were upgraded to 650 Michelin Xeobib tyres, giving the tractor an ultra light footprint with their ability to be operated at very low pressures.
2014 saw the business expanding with the addition of a John Deere 750a disc drill. Suitable for use in direct drilling situations, or on cultivated ground with minimal disturbance it will help to widen the businesses services portfolio.
Aside from the business Matt is also an NFU branch vice-chairman, and a Farmers Weekly Farmer Focus writer, writing a short article for the magazine once a month.
